She was 18, new to New York, a tenderfoot in an industry said to eat its young. But Beverly Johnson was not short on brass. She had been quick in the early 1970s to sign with the formidable model agent Eileen Ford — and just as swift, at 19, to inform her, “I want to be on the cover of American Vogue.” When Ms. Ford asked her curtly, “Who do you think you are, Cleopatra?” Ms. Johnson was as curt with a comeback, murmuring, audibly enough, “That’s exactly who I think I am.”Ms. Johnson revisits that moment in “In Vogue,” her one-woman show set to open in Manhattan on Sunday. The play, largely derived from her 2015 memoir, “Beverly Johnson: The Face That Changed It All,” and written with the playwright Josh Ravetch, is by turns an upbeat and cautionary account of Ms. Johnson’s adventures — and hairy misadventures — in the mannequin trade. Onstage she tells of defying expectations and defecting to a competing modeling agency, despite the warnings of peers that such a move would amount to professional ruin.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, 81, has had a history of falls this year, per several new reports. After falling and fracturing his rib in March, McConnell also tripped at an airport in July, per NBC. They said they did not see the fall in person but spoke to another passenger who assisted McConnell after his fall. ABC News also reported that McConnell fell while leaving his flight on July 14, citing unnamed sources who said he tripped on the air bridge. Including the two previously unreported incidents, McConnell has had at least three separate falls this year.

“Angry Birds” buyout may have more levels to beat

LONDON, Jan 20 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Remember “Angry Birds”? Finland-listed Rovio Entertainment (ROVIO.HE) has used the round-headed creatures to create a long series of mobile games, two films, plush toys and more. That makes strong long-time brands like “Angry Birds” more attractive. Rovio’s share price was hovering around 7.50 euros on Friday morning, or 20% below Playtika’s bid. That’s probably because Rovio’s board, which said it learnt about the offer “nearly simultaneously” with its public release, sounded unimpressed.
James Corden said the drama surrounding his brief ban from the famed New York City restaurant Balthazar is "silly" because he has not done anything wrong. "I haven’t done anything wrong, on any level,” Corden said in an interview with The New York Times to promote his new Amazon Prime Video mini-series "Mammals." It’s certainly beneath your publication," he told The New York Times. One report said Corden showed a hair to an apologetic restaurant manager and demanded "another round of drinks this second." During his interview with The New York Times, Corden pointed out a customer who "curtly" returned the eggs she ordered.
